Remix: Plaid Cardigan Coat

Statement coats or sweaters are just as important to your wardrobe as a great statement bag or shoe. Sure, you may not wear it everyday, but when you do, it's all you need to stand out. Plus, the outfit takes on an entirely new look by adding such a piece so we are both all about this plaid cardigan coat!

Here are a few ways we have styled it so far:

Rocked it & Swapped it

Lisa and I typically favor different styles and trends (which always makes our swaps even more fun), but two things we never disagree on are plaid and leather. It was love at first sight when we eyed this Sheinside coat which is the ultimate layering accessory. The leather belt adds an edgy element and makes for a figure flattering waistline which you don't find in most jackets or coats.

The jacket is lightweight so it's easy to wear over another long sleeved top, just like Lisa did with a bright blue blouse, but still warm enough to keep me cozy on a dreary midwest day.

Pattern Mixing While Getting Blown Away

I love pattern mixing! I think my favorite part is unexpected pairings gone so right. I was wearing my polka dot blouse and skinny jeans when I walked outside and all of a sudden, the wind hit and I was so cold...I mean, "lets hope I can keep my feet on the ground" type of windy and cold out. I quickly grabbed the closest coat I could find and it happened to be the plaid one Kaitlyn and I share.

It was pattern mixing love at first sight! I went to the local park to take photos and the wind just got worse and worse as you can see below...

Jacket: c/o Sheinside // Blouse: c/o Oasap // Jeans: Old Navy // Boots: c/o Sole Society // Necklace & Earrings: House of Gemmes // Sunnies: Ray Ban

Right after these shots, I ran to my tripod as it was falling over and thank goodness I caught my camera! No more windy photo shoots with a tripod (note to self)! ;)

What do you think of this pairing? How do you mix patterns?

Rocked it & Swapped it

Right now, it’s all about autumnal plaids in shades of navy, gray, deep red, and tan. The plaid statement coat is a must this season – it’s edgy and classic, all at once. Think back to how chic Cher looked in yellowplaid circa Clueless and tell me you were not a little jealy of her look (and her rotating CLOSET!) But keep in mind, when it comes to wearing a strong print such as plaid, figuring out how to wear it and pair it takes a bit more thought thank your basic white t and jeans.

We both styled this Sheinside coat for a weekend trip the lake house but Kaitlyn decided to go with a cable knit sweater and beanie while Lisa made the plaid her pop of color in an otherwise all black ensemble. By mixing patterns, shades and textures, you can wear and re-wear this style with ease this season.
