Find Your Fierce: Women's Self Defense

"The White House reports that 1 in 5 women will be assaulted during their time in college, and this figure does not even begin to describe the abuse that occurs to women outside of college campuses, and around the world" - (via

It’s time to shift the balance of power...

We've all heard the statistics. They're staggering and always seemingly on the rise but it's still very easy to think "that will never happen to me" and you're probably right. But why not feel confident when you're alone rather than unsure? (Sadly), we're no longer navigating a college campus but between the both of us, we spend a lot of time outdoors engaging in various fitness activities.

Whether we're working to complete a challenge or riding bikes with the kids, we don't always have the luxury of being with another person so an extra layer of security sounded really beneficial. I was talking to my co-worker the other day whose daughter just graduated from IU and he said, "I always felt better about her walking home because she carried her Tiger Lady." I started laughing. What? I thought he was joking (or just referring to some ridiculous friend of his daughter's -- kids these days, right?) but then he explained the concept to me and I thought it was genius.

TigerLady is a hand-held self-defense device inspired by the natural defense of a cat's retractable claws. TigerLady works in two ways: 1) Holding the product in your hand reminds you to stay alert, and pay attention to your surroundings, 2) It enhances your ability to scratch an assailant and quickly get to safety.

claws out

The device acts as a claw that relies on the tension of your fist to cause 3 claws to protract from between your knuckles. The three claws have hollow channels on the underside, which are designed to collect skin and DNA for a better chance of positive ID. Guys - This tiny device collects DNA...This is so Law & Order SVU, I can't even stand it ;) PLUS, it gives you chance to be cat woman for a day... #superherogoals.

The icing on the cake? TigerLady is made entirely in the USA and assembled by disabled veterans. So not only do we feel safer but it feels great to know we are helping such a wonderful group of people, just by making this purchase.

How do you stay safe outside? Do you carry mace or any other devices?

P.S. We wanted to point out that WE reached out to TigerLady for this post - It was not given to us for a sponsored review...we actually were so impressed by the concept and both felt compelled to try it ourselves. Hope you guys are as interested as we were :)
