Rocked it & Swapped it: Free People Turtleneck

Very similar to last weeks R&S, this week is more of a style steal. I love a great sleeveless turtleneck, but when it comes to styling, having so many options can sometimes make pairing more difficult. Take this brown knit turtleneck from Free People, it can pair with literally any solid color or honestly any print undershirt as well. When Kaitlyn wore it last year in October, she kept the styling simple pairing it with a cream undershirt, distressed denim, and brown lace-up boots. 

When I got my hands on it last month, I decided to not fix what wasn't broken! I too wore a cream undershirt, but added bootcut denim, navy boot, a cream hat, and a bold red lip. I loved both the pairings, but mine was definitely inspired by Kaitlyn's look. I honestly didn't know which way to go with the top, so I went with what I already liked.

Do you ever do that? Feel overwhelmed with too many options so you just go with the obvious or look for style inspo?

Layers of Love

This is one of those moments where I feel a little late to the party. I recently visited Nordstrom Rack for the first time in years...I was doing some last minute dress hunting for a friend's wedding and the store is close to my work so I figured I would give it a shot. Not only did I leave with a dress but the second I walked in, I asked myself why I had been wasting so much time shopping elsewhere. I love Nordstrom (who doesn't?), but I'm not always willing to spend $60-70 on a shirt so I was pretty pumped to see a lot of the same styles and trends for around half the price. 

I left with a few blouses which will be considered staple pieces for years to come and my favorite purchase of the day, this Free People turtleneck. Lisa wore something similar last year and when we swapped it, I fell in love so I jumped at the chance to secure my own. I like how much warmth a piece like this can provide without feeling overly bulky or stuffy. Plus, no sleeves means you can layer a jacket over this too for a triple layered look, much like Jessica did here...Fall is the ultimate time to combine textures like leather and knits.

Also, I get really excited to pull these LOFT boots out year after year...I had them on a birthday wish list a few years ago and I was so excited when they were given to me as a gift. If I can toughen up any feminine style just a bit, I'm a happy girl. How can you not love what is essentially a hiking/construction boot turned lace up heel? These are definitely my "I do what I want" themed shoes ;) Seriously, I'm obsessed BUT one downside -- the heel is SUPER high on these and at 5'9", I do not need any help with height so unfortunately, they only come out to play on seldom occasions.

I feel like it may be very similar to TJ Maxx where it's hit or miss and you have to be willing to put in a little time to find the hidden gems. Thoughts?

Brunch Style

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is go out for Sunday brunch. Yes, it's nice not cook one meal of the weekend, but there is just something about eating a bit later in the morning and having a mimosa (or two!). Side note, I have found that the older I get, the more I like day drinking. Truth, I would rather drink on a Sunday morning then on a Friday night. Judge away, but there is no hang over and I'm with the people I love the most in this world, my family! Then we go home and the rest of the day is spent relaxing. Why isn't brunch a mandatory monthly activity? It should be...just saying.

I tend to want to look put together, but never wear tight clothing as I do like to eat! I mean, brunch is usually my only meal prior to dinner so I stock up! The perfect solution was layering this sweater over a maxi dress. Flowy, loose, and cute...works for me! I added a few accessories, beach waves to my hair, and I was good to go. Sometimes less really is more.

Inspired by Vinyl

I don't know about you, but I am always looking for new shows to watch (and binge watch for that matter) with my husband. I recently saw the trailer for Vinyl on HBO and I can't even contain my excitement. It airs February 14th at 9:00 p.m. and you best believe we will be watching. Mostly for the fashion, and of course all the amazing music! As most of you know, I am such a fan of 70's fashion. Any chance I get to make that part of my everyday, is a great day as far as I am concerned. 

On this day I was feeling Vinyl inspired and decided to rock a vintage but modern outfit. By adding in throwbacks such as this high waist belt and leather wrap necklace, it took my tee-shirt maxi dress back to the 70's. To paid homage to the music of this time I went with a faux leather jacket and added my faux fur stole to finish it off. I mean, it's winter here and I needed all the heat help I could get! 

A simple ponytail seemed like the best way to go with my hair, but I decided I needed to add a twist. The only style that made sense was a side dutch braid that is pulled into the ponytail. I really do love how this whole look turned out!

Rocked it & Swapped it

A great blouse is just that, a great blouse. I love Free People clothing so when I saw this beauty super discounted I knew it had to be mine. Who knew a sheer & lace blouse I found on Hautelook back in 2012 would get so much wear over the years?

It really is a casual blouse, but when styled differently it takes on an entire new look. Below is a great example of just that! One of the first times I wore it, I kept the look super easy by adding denim and chambray to it. Then by adding a fringe bag, long moon necklace, and a crop boot, this look was a bit boho and a whole lot cozy. 

When Kaitlyn wore the blouse a few years later, she dressed it up and like the chameleon it is, it instantly became the perfect GNO top. How stunning does is pair with a faux leather midi skirt and killer heels? I'm a such a fan of this outfit!

Because I Love Plaid!

I have to admit, I am mad for plaid! 

I just love that it can be styled preppy, chic, or even grunge depending on which piece of clothing has the plaid print on it.

Peaked My Pinterest: Boho Hair

As soon as I saw this pin posted by Free People, I knew I was going to try it ASAP!

With festival season upon us (me and the hubby are SO going to lolla this year) this look screamed "try me, try me"! lol

Here is how my look turned out:

It was so easy to do! This is actually day 3 hair. ;)

1) Put your hair in pigtails using clear bands.

2) Wrap small amount of hair around band and tuck the end into the back side of the clear band.

3) Braid half of each side (the top portion) and tease ends to secure braid. Use a bit of hair spray to hold.

4) Top off with a wide-brimmed hat

Because We Love Mario Tricoci

We were thrilled to be invited and attend the 4th annual Mario Tricoci Beauty Resolution Event. What girl could say no to a night of pampering, complete with wine and the most amazing mini burgers you've ever tasted. Seriously, we must find out their secret.

There were many wonderful services to choose from at the event including blowouts, facials and massages, but Lisa and I both opted for the signature manicure because it lasts the longest and that way we could gossip during. The nail techs were great...in fact, we absolutely loved them, mostly because we had a full on reality TV discussion. Our favorite quote regarding Lisa's favorite show, the Housewives of (whatever): "They've not housewives! They don't even vacuum!" 

We'll definitely be going back :)
