4 Tips for Over the Knee Boots

Seriously, though. Years ago, the only one who was able to pull off over the knee boots was Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and even then, it was just considered risque and suggestive. Fast forward a few decades and not only are they back, but they're becoming a part of our everyday wardrobes. Because I'm tall, I have always loved the look of tall riding boots and the same goes for the OTK style...all it does is kick things up a notch. They allow you to feel modestly sexy and demure all at the same time, as long as you pay attention to a few style tips. 

I read a few by Who What Wear that made a lot of sense:

• Wear them with clothing that is covered up in at least one way (high neckline, maxi hemline or sleeves)
• Pick a hemline that covers the top of the boots for an alternative peek of the skin
• Top your look with a coat if you want to play down the "boldness" of the boots
• Don't let the boots overpower the rest of your outfit, especially if you're wearing an abundance of accessories and makeup.,,You don’t want too many things competing for attention.

I took that last one and ran with it for this rainy day-errand look, by starting with black leggings underneath. This way, my OTK boots didn't make an overly loud statement and looked chic in a monochrome pairing. I also love pairing tall boots with long, tunic style sweaters...something about it seems so cozy and perfectly Fall.

(Prep)paring for Rain

Supposedly April showers bring May flowers, but I know one thing for sure: March has completely lost its mind. In efforts to stay dry while in Ireland, I purchased a pair of rain boots and wanted to break them in a bit at home so I could ensure they were comfortable. However, I planned on splashing through puddles with them, not brushing off my car from yet ANOTHER snow storm. In other words Chicago, you're drunk.

But what's important here is that whether it's snow or shine, these boots are adorable and have moved into my #1 shoe spot. I'm really into navy lately so I opted for these over the black (though it was a hard decision) but I'm glad I did, because the pop of pink on the bottom is the perfect hint of cute and they're just right for my often preppy mood :)

I hear it's actually supposed to rain in Ireland which means I'll get the chance to utilize my Nashville umbrella for real...not that my neighbors weren't completely amused by my rainy day photo shoot :)

Because Lisa Loves Nashville (Part 1)

On Saturday night, we headed out to dinner at The Row followed by the live tapping of Nashville at Ryman Auditorium.

 When I created my spring wish list, I found this beauty at Nordstrom and bought it right away. I am beyond obsessed! This one is going to be fun to style and style again right through the summer.

Here is how I styled my new print number for one hell of a night out in Nashville, TN:

Currently, this is my favorite outfit to date. I can't decided if that's because it's just so me or because this is what I was wearing on one of the most fun nights I've had in a long time! Probably both.

Because We Miss Nashville Already!

The best mother and mother-in-law celebrated her birthday last month and as our gift, we took a girls trip to Nashville. This trip was epic. Only 2 of the 5 of us had been there before so we spent three full days "eating our way through Nashville, one fried pickle at a time" (truth), sight seeing, day drinking, watching live music, shopping, and laughing until our stomachs hurt.

And never in a million years did we think we would end up at a live taping of our favorite ABC show, Nashville.
