How to Style a White Button Down & Denim Shorts

Fall is quickly approaching and I'm hoping for a subtle transition into cooler temps to avoid any shocks to the system and a slow change in seasons also makes it easier to transition your clothes. Instead of going from sandals to sweaters in one day, you can sub in warmer pieces here and there to maximize your wardrobe. For example, one of my favorite late-Summer combos is a white button-down shirt & denim cut-offs. This pairing provides a bridge from classic to trendy which is exactly where I like to live when it comes to personal style.

The white button-down is easily the most universal item of clothing. Due to its versatility, it can literally be worn (and worn well) with anything. plus there are so many ways to keep it fresh. It has all the benefits of a blank slate: Tuck it in for polish or leave it out for a relaxed fit, style with heels for elegance or sneakers for effortless and my very favorite, pair with your go-to denim, for a look that will never leave you questioning whether you're dressed just right.

If you need any more reasons why this fashion essential belongs in your closet, here's another: It's lakeside perfection. Easy, breezy, beautiful, button-down ;)

Did I mention this button down is made from a silky-suede material? Holy soft. I have already worn this J.Jill top multiple times (see another outfit idea here) and it's like putting on the perfect fitting gloves every time.

Like the shirt? I've linked to it (and my other pieces or similar options!) here:

What is your favorite way to style a white button-down?

Winter Florals

Oh the weather outside is...well, it's all over the place actually! I can't really complain, I was outside in December with no coat on for pete's sake. ;) The trees have shed their leaves, but that doesn't mean we can't bring some flowers back into the mix. Floral prints in your clothing that is.

This dress is everything! As soon as I saw it on the Shopbop site, I knew it needed to be mine. Love at first sight? Yes it was.

The entire top have of the dress is sheer, so I picked up a sweetheart neck bandeau to go under. This piece can obviously be mixed and matched tons in my current wardrobe so I was very excited to find it. To keep my outfit perfect for this night int he city, I added olive boots, a brown bag, and lots of gold jewelry. Bare legs in December never felt so good.

Into the Woods

Sometimes I think I was meant to live outdoors...Especially when we’re up north in the woods and enjoying the most beautiful October I can remember in years. From walking on crunchy leaves to inhaling the scent of a wood burning fire nearby and taking in all the visually stunning colors, these are the kind of moments that make me realize how blessed I am. I just feel better when I'm outdoors, especially if I'm being active like taking a long walk or hiking a challenging mountain

That said, I was really excited when I read about REI’s #OptOutside campaign, did you guys hear about this? They are closing all their stores on Black Friday and instead, inspiring people to get outdoors because “being outside makes our lives better.” I’ve never visited a retail store on Black Friday (shopping online doesn't count, ok?), partly because there’s never anything I need THAT BADLY at 2:00am...but also because, these people should be with their families, especially when things get even more ridiculous and they’re asked to open the store in the middle of carving the turkey the night before. Greed. That's all that is.

This year, #OptOutside for some family football or a jog with your pup to work off your (third slice of) pumpkin pie. I promise you won't regret it ;)

What are your Thanksgiving plans this year? How you feel about the #OptOutside movement?

Fall into Sweater Weather

Hello sweater weather, oh how I have missed you! It's no secret that my favorite season is fall, so I am all too excited to break out the layers now that the days are cooling off. Lately, my go-to has been this sweater vest. I wear it at least once a week (OK, maybe more if I'm being honest) and it literally goes with anything and everything.

On this day, I kept it casual in all denim and chambray. I was really feeling the blue color so I carried it throughout the entire outfit. Blue crop boots, blue hat, all gold jewelry, and then I finished the outfit off by pulling browns from the sweater in. I love how the bag, watch, and sunglasses tie the look together.

#CoachFall2015

An ordinary Wednesday night is anything but when spent with your favorite ladies (and men, thanks bro & Dad for coming!) at the CoachFall 2015 preview. Lisa guest hosted the event and was the picture of Fall perfection in a fur vest, suede skirt and soft but glam makeup.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted with champagne, delicious treats and all of Lisa’s favorite Coach picks to help us familiar with the new product line(s). Everything on her display was beautiful but I only had eyes for the matching buffalo plaid backpack and heels. Ugh, my wardrobe needs these shoes like white needs black...

I will say this: I went in with the mindset that I was going to support Lisa, enjoy a night out with the girls (and let's be honest, drink free champs) but I left with a totally different feeling. Guys, Coach got a face lift and it is working for them...I've always admired the brand from a distance because I thought of it more as my Mom’s favorite designer line which is not to be considered negative, but the purses and general aesthetic just always seemed to appeal to a slightly older audience than a girl in her 20's.

With that said, I was more than pleasantly surprised by the Fall line – With moto jackets (one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen!), plaid on more plaid, cute graphic prints and bold jewel tones, I felt completely at home in the store. Everything looked fresh and modern so to me, it was obvious that they are looking to cater to wider demographic now including young adults and fashion trendsetters, all while still hitting the mark with their signature style where it counts in the statement pieces.
P.S. All of the mini apps were provided by Wildfire and I'm now wondering what I've been doing without jalapeno cornbread in my life. SO GOOD.

This moto jacket though...TO DIE.

I loved the men's collection as well...even my Dad's interest was peaked by the thought of a new "murse" ;)

Thanks for having us, Coach!
If you guys check out the new Fall collection, let us know what you think!

Layers of Love

Lately, I have been in love with layers – Specifically, button-up blouses with sweaters where a hint of plaid, polka dots or fun patterns can peek out (like this, LOVE!) As long as you refrain from a bulky style, it’s not only a great way to keep warm (I'm beating a dead horse but I am seriously ALWAYS cold) but fun to try your hand at mixing prints to come up with new combinations.

This is one of my favorite sweaters (obvi, it’s nautical themed) but to me, it always feels too summery for the winter months so I decided to add a plaid blouse underneath to make it more winter appropriate…think it did the trick?
