5 Festival Hair Styles

I love the summer season for so many reasons. The obvious first, is sunshine which leads to lots of amazing live music festivals nationwide. The hair styles we get to rock during these shows are a close second for sure. We get to relive the summer loving vibes of Woodstock while putting our own modern twist on it. It's important to embrace the culture when attending these shows, but not to the point that you look like you are wearing a Halloween costume (check out these do's & don't post I wrote).

I've rounded up 5 of my favorite hairstyles to wear during festival season. However, I fully intend to wear these looks for more then just concerts.

Rocked it & Swapped it (Gettin' Shifty with it!)

This #rockandswap is dedicated to the shift dress, one of our favorite summer staples. It's plain and simple...we love this style for its minimalist appeal because it's so easy to look chic in a shift, especially in black or white which provides a great canvas for delicate jewels. Not to mention, they are super comfortable which is key when it's 90 degrees out...nobody wants to be dealing with spankx life when we're sweating (Amen?)

Lastly and most importantly, they are flattering on all body types. The trick is to get a good fit on top let the dress skim your body, not double as a potato sack...that's when our men start to really question our style choices ;)

I love the way Lisa styled this shift dress because I probably would have never thought to pair it with suede knee-high boots but with the coordinating bag, it works perfectly. When I wore it, I styled it down for an alfresco lunch by the pier at the lake. 

And in honor of  #ThrowbackThursday, a little r&s from 2012 featuring this shift dress from Threadsence. This is one of those pieces that earns a permanent place in the closet because it never goes out of style and can be styled so many different ways to keep it fresh and interesting. 

Lisa's casual summer style is still spot on in current trends thanks to a mint bag and her sunnies of choice. As for my styling of the dress, well, it makes me slightly sad because I lost that jean jacket and it was absolute favorite. I wore it with everything...not that that's changed with my replacement but still...some things fit just right. You know what I mean? It's been years since I lost it and I STILL miss it, wondering where it is and who is wearing it now..anyone else ever get attached to a piece of clothing?

Side by Side Challenge: Braids

The ladies of 2 Girls in 2 Cities are at it again and this months challenge was braids. 

Eight bloggers showed us their favorite braid styles and I was happy to be among this group of great girls! 

Here are our braided styles:

I love how everyone made this challenge their own by showing easy summer braids. I spy a few styles above that I'll be trying out for sure! 

I decided to go with a super easy triple braid bun. My hair was dirty (day three) so it was perfect for an up-do. 

What you need:

- 4 elastic ties

- bobby pins

Instructions: 

1) Divide hair into three sections. French braid both sides and regular braid the center one. Use small elastic bands to secure the braids. 

2) Pull braids apart making them messy and big.

3) Braid all three braids loosely together.

4) Roll the braid up and use 3-4 bobby pins to secure to head. 

5) Pull at braids again making the bun bumpy and loose.

Peaked my Pinterest: Romantic Side Braid

You all know by now how much a love a great braid. I pinned this on Pinterest a few months ago and waited until I got my new Hair by Suzie extensions to try it out.

Here is my take on a romantic side braid:

 

1 & 2) Create a side part and pull all hair to the opposite side.

3) Begin a regular French braid at the top, near the part.

3) Continue creating the French braid along the side/hairline moving towards the ear.

4) Add hair from the opposite side by taking horizontal sections and bringing them around to the front where the braid is located.

5) Finish braid and secure with hair tie. Begin to pull and loosen braid. Loosen braid to desired size.

8) Spray with finishing spray. I also added a bobby pin or two down the center of the braid to keep a few fly-aways in place.

Peaked My Pinterest: Braid Wrapped Chignon

This is hands down the easiest hair style I have ever recreated from Pinterest. When I saw this pin, I immediately fell in love but had no idea it would quickly become my go-to for days I'm in a hurry!

Here is the pin that peaked my Pinterest:

This was my first ever attempt at this style. I had just showered and had 20 minutes to get out the door (and yes, my hair was still wet!). I did a 5 minute blow dry, which really means my hair was still super damp, and using the five steps above I created this hair in 7 minutes flat.

I am in LOVE!

Helpful hints: Use a few bobby pins to secure each side after you tuck the end into the top. Also, use 1 bobby pin on each side to hold braids in place.

Peaked My Pinterest: The Double Braid

I am forever on the hunt for easy hair ideas for super hot days or day 3 of dirty hair, so when I saw this pin on Pinterest, I knew it was perfect for a braid lover like myself.

Although there are a lot of steps, it's super easy and the messier the better! 

I broke it down in a few less steps, starting with the two twisted buns in the back and going from there.

If you can twist, braid, and own bobby pins, this is a look you can easily re-creative. It was complete in under 10 minutes and kept my bangs off my face on a very warm day.

Peaked My Pinterest: Boho Hair

As soon as I saw this pin posted by Free People, I knew I was going to try it ASAP!

With festival season upon us (me and the hubby are SO going to lolla this year) this look screamed "try me, try me"! lol

 Here is the pin that inspired me:

Here is how my look turned out:

It was so easy to do! This is actually day 3 hair. ;)

1) Put your hair in pigtails using clear bands.

2) Wrap small amount of hair around band and tuck the end into the back side of the clear band.

3) Braid half of each side (the top portion) and tease ends to secure braid. Use a bit of hair spray to hold.

4) Top off with a wide-brimmed hat
