Rocked it & Swapped it: Floral Evereve Skirt

They say if you spend enough time with someone, you start to look/act alike. I feel that way with Lisa a lot lately! She and I did some shopping at Evereve on completely different days and never spoke after about what we had purchased. About a week later, we both published outfit posts featuring some of the pieces we brought home with us and it turns out, we not only picked out, but pieced together an almost identical outfit! It's funny to think we both selected these very items out of a whole store filled with amazing clothes but let's be honest, is there anything better than this mini skirt? Embroidery is so big this season and this is the perfect statement piece for any holiday party or event you attend.

The floral detail on the front is just beautiful and because of all the colors, it pairs well with so many things. I love that we both chose a black top, the SAME crescent moon necklace (my current favorite!) and a colorful jacket. Lisa paired hers with a pink bomber style and I chose a teal suede version. Fun to see how different they are but both complement the outfit so well.

Rocked it & Swapped it

Does everyone have a blush colored bag in their wardrobe yet? It's such a perfect color for the Spring and Summer months, but I've actually even styled it during the Fall months too! I mean, why not? It's such a beautiful color and can really be styled with any outfit, giving it an entire new look.

When I styled my bush bag from Express in early May, I wore it with a romper, denim jacket, and gladiator sandals. The bag was the perfect amount of muted color pop that I needed to finish off this hues of blue look. When Kaitlyn wore my bag in late May, she paired it with white denim, a stripe tunic, denim jacket, and yellow gladiator sandals. Again, the blush tone bag gave it a little extra unexpected color pop.

I searched high and low for blush bags for you to shop, but wanted to find them at every prince point. I hope you love the ones I found,  I have had my blush bag for three years now and it's definitely one of my most worn bags! I found quite a few around the $30 price point too, so why not pick one up? ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it: Striped Cabi Cardigan

I can't speak for Kaitlyn, but I had no idea I always wanted needed a long stripe cardigan in my wardrobe. Sure, I have styled long cardigans in the past, but this one is just so amazing. The style, the quality, the mis-matched stripes on the sleeves...swoon! A giant thank you to Cabi Clothing for hooking us both up with this beauty. If you guys want it, shop soon as their Fall line will be coming out in a few short months (which by the way is ah-may-zing!) and when it's gone, it's gone.

When I styled my long stripe cardigan, I was in Los Angeles and wore it over a classic tank and shorts with some great mules. The cardigan was perfect to keep me warm in the air conditioning during the day and later that night when I was outside. When Kaitlyn styled her cardigan, she wore with with white demin and a classic tee for a Memorial Day style inspired look. P.S. How cute is her chambray ribbon panama hat? LOVE!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Sole Society Tassel Bag

A great tassel bag is a wardrobe staple that can be worn year in and year out. Especially if you pick one up in a neutral color, that baby is never going out of style! I actually have the same one in black, when you find a bag you love (and it's under $60), you kind-of have to get it, right? ;)
Kaitlyn picked this beautiful camel colored bag up over a year ago, and we are both wearing it non-stop ever since. She styled it last summer with a gorgeous girly dress that was paired with yellow sandals and a denim jacket. When I recently styled her bag, I also wore it with a girly dress but kept my shoes neutral and ditched the jacket on this warmer afternoon.

Rocked it & Swapped it: LOFT Gingham Peplum

When you put too many trends together at once, it can turn out disastrous. In this case, however, combining gingham and peplum, two of our current favorites, seemed like a match made in Heaven. This blouse with a flirty hem and button-tab sleeves feels like a great way to start a new season. It’s lightweight and feels fresh for the days that lie ahead. It's been the perfect style for me with a growing belly and just right for Spring layers. But it’s so much fun to see the outcome of another person’s vision, like the way Lisa chose to knot the side of the top and pair it with denim cut-offs, making it easily appropriate for the impending Summer months.

P.S. This fun top is on MAJOR sale...

Rocked it & Swapped it: Cabi Striped Trench Coat

When it comes to outerwear, us Midwest girls can never have too many options. I know for a fact I have over ten coats and I am OK with it, I mean, we wear coats a lot here with this all over the place weather. This gorgeous stripe trench coat from Cabi Clothing is giving us all the feels and we just can't stop wearing it! Is it weird that I got excited it's going to cool off the next few days because I know I get to wear it again? It's the little things in life...

When I wore my striped trench, I paired it over a great sweater top (also Cabi Clothing), denim skirt, and bright flats. I just love the red, white, and blue pairing even when it's not the 4th of July, don't you? Kaitlyn recently styled hers and she paired it over denim, a classic white tee, pastel scarf, and strappy sandals. Pregnancy style never looked so chic...at least mine didn't! ;)

I definitely feel like everyone needs a great lightweight khaki trench coat, but now Cabi has me believing we would all be better off with a striped trench too!

What do you think?

Rocked it & Swapped it

I've got two words for you ladies: Tencel fabric! This dress feels like you are wearing pajamas while looking stylish enough for any occasion, day or night. I love how Kaitlyn styled her dress with OTK boots and an olive green jacket. This color combo is perfect for the transition from winter to spring or would even look amazing styled during the transition from summer to fall. Gotta love a great year round piece!

When I recently styled the J.Jill swing dress, it was a bit warmer outside. I decided to pair this light blue beauty with a straw hat, flat sandals, and a great tribal bag. Can we talk about the adorable mini pocket on the front? I mean, I am a sucker for a cute detail. I think both these pairings give you a good idea of just how many ways this dress can be styled. The possibilities are endless and this particular swing dress style is flattering on all body types!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Neutral Maxi Dress

What is not to love about a mock neck maxi dress? It's the perfect, "it's close enough to Spring that I can pull off a dress" style because it's so transitional. Long enough for colder days with a jacket but light and sleeveless for Summer days and sandals. We're big fans of the pocket detail and the slit in the back (adding a little va va voom to a basic staple piece). We both chose to keep the color palette in all neutral tones...me in navy and brown and Lisa in 50 shades of gray but how cute would the dress be with colorful pom pom accessories? True Spring style can't come soon enough!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Red Strappy Flats

There is no such thing as too much of a good thing. OK, maybe there is, but when it comes to wearing these beautiful red flats over and over, we just can't get enough! They are perfect for year-round wear and super comfortable to boot. No matter how you style them, they always steal the show because even if you were wearing all muted colors or a monochrome look, they serve as your pop of color. We constantly get compliments about them on Instagram and when worn out and about. Do they remind anyone else of Dorothy's shoes? There's just something so playful about a red shoe!

When Kaitlyn first wore her red flats from J.Jill, she paired them with a timeless and classic outfit. Ladies, you can literally never go wrong when pairing a white collar shirt with jeans! When I wore my pair last week, I styled them with a denim skirt and lots of stripes. See a few other ways we have styled them here:

With Stripes //  Overalls // Distressed Denim

A great pair of red shoes really are the focal point of any look!

Rocked it & Swapped it

It was love at first sight for both of us with this gorgeous embroidered jacket from Style & CoEmbroidery is something that has been around a very long time. In fact, it can be traced all the way back to the Iron Age of human civilization. It is believed that it was the Chinese during the Zhou Dynasty (around 1045 BC) that are credited for the more modern embroidery techniques that we see today. To the Chinese, embroidery was considered a sign of power, wealth, and rank. They would use the embroidered designs on clothing in a way that each symbol had a different meaning. In today's fashion, I think embroidery is more about being playful and fun with your style. Plus, this season it's a whole lot of red embroidered flowers....which I love and think is quite beautiful.

When Kaitlyn styled her jacket, she paired it with a striped dress, floral flats, and a red lip. She finished her look off with a brown cross body bag and black sunglasses. I love a great neutral mixing outfit with pops of red! When I wore the jacket, I too opted to add another piece of floral to my look. The strap on my bag is also embroidered, so it just made sense to me to mix these two items in one outfit. Add to that the red of my shoes and lips, some flare overalls, and a black sweater, and I was good to go. Dressed up or dressed down, this jacket has the perfect amount of extra detail to give your look something special.

What do you think of the embroidered trend that is back again this year? Are you loving this jacket as much as we do? It is on super sale right now, so get yours before they sell out!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Navy Faux Leather Jacket

Sweater weather may still be upon us but when we want to change it up and dress up our looks a bit, we always look to the leather jacket. Since late Winter/early Spring temps can vary, especially between day and night, layering is key. A black leather jacket is a staple piece that should be in everyone's closet but with brighter colors and sunshine around the corner, we're shedding the traditional style for fun addition to our outerwear collection. The navy blue leather is a unique twist on a classic and really pops, whether it's styled with similarly colored maxi dress or floral beauty.

By the way, the one we're both wearing here is on sale for $27 down from $90 (and also comes in cream color!) If you want to buy it in both colors, we support it ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it: Free People Turtleneck

Very similar to last weeks R&S, this week is more of a style steal. I love a great sleeveless turtleneck, but when it comes to styling, having so many options can sometimes make pairing more difficult. Take this brown knit turtleneck from Free People, it can pair with literally any solid color or honestly any print undershirt as well. When Kaitlyn wore it last year in October, she kept the styling simple pairing it with a cream undershirt, distressed denim, and brown lace-up boots.

When I got my hands on it last month, I decided to not fix what wasn't broken! I too wore a cream undershirt, but added bootcut denim, navy boot, a cream hat, and a bold red lip. I loved both the pairings, but mine was definitely inspired by Kaitlyn's look. I honestly didn't know which way to go with the top, so I went with what I already liked.

Do you ever do that? Feel overwhelmed with too many options so you just go with the obvious or look for style inspo?

Rocked it & Swapped it

In all honesty, I pulled these photos to showcase a rock and swap for our amazing JustFab emerald bag, but this is turning out to be an entire look R&S! When I styled my studded bag back in November, I wore it with black overalls, a stripe top, gray heels, and a great black wool hat. When Kaitlyn wore her bag in January, she too wore it with black overalls and a stripe top, but opted for crop boots instead of heels. (Welcome to the overalls club, Kaitlyn!) Let's be honest, we are not the first to rock this killer combo and we certainly won't be the last!

Rocked it & Swapped it: The Long Cardigan

I love the the reinvention of the classic cardigan. Not too long ago, cardigans were still waist length, fitted, Grandma-esque sweaters. But by adding a little length and some different ideas about styling them, they have become much more current and versatile. Long cardigans from knee-lengths to floor-lengths are a year round staple...whether you layer it over an all black, dressed up ensemble or add over a striped turtleneck and jeans to keep things casual, it makes either look final. We both love the nude color because it literally goes with everything...we both happened to stick with a neutral palette but there's no color you could pair it with that would be a bad choice. Style it with sneakers and beanie for a "model off duty" look or stilettos and a loose, white T for an effortless, chic combination. The best thing is, there's no wrong answer!

Rocked it & Swapped it

This season, I have really been into wearing tons of blush tones. Sure, you think blush tones when you think Spring fashion, but I am truly loving styling these pink hues this Winter as well! Kaitlyn was gifted this beautiful cashmere pink sweater from J.Jill in December, and styled it with skinny jeans while print mixing for a day in Downers Grove. When I found it in my swap bag, I wanted to try to mix up the styling a bit. I wore the sweater over a wrap dress and under another sweater. Layers is something that will never go out of style!

Rocked it & Swapped it

We are both gaga for this blue faux leather jacket! Not only is it a gorgeous color and style, but it's also only $50 (score!). When I wore this beauty on Christmas Eve, I layered it over a DVF wrap dress and paired it with navy boots. Kaitlyn recently styled it with a great plaid bag, and pops of blue, white, and black for her day in Winnetka. As you can see, it pairs just as nice with dressy outfits as it does with everyday wear. I know we will both be getting tons of wear out of this beauty well through the Spring months.

Best of 2016: Rocked it & Swapped it

Running this blog together is so special for us. We may not see each other every day or sometimes for weeks at a time, especially now that we live further apart so this joint space has a perfect way of keeping us connected on a regular basis. It all began with us swapping clothes...sharing our favorite pieces with each other and making something new again is not only where the blog started, but how our first business was born. One of our favorite posts is still actually one of our first -- Even though the look and content is very simple, we loved it because the situation was so unplanned – we showed up a family party wearing the exact same outfit head to toe and that was when we knew, these things need to be documented somewhere!

Alas, some of our best rock & swap posts of 2016:
