Rocked it & Swapped it

It was love at first sight for both of us with this gorgeous embroidered jacket from Style & CoEmbroidery is something that has been around a very long time. In fact, it can be traced all the way back to the Iron Age of human civilization. It is believed that it was the Chinese during the Zhou Dynasty (around 1045 BC) that are credited for the more modern embroidery techniques that we see today. To the Chinese, embroidery was considered a sign of power, wealth, and rank. They would use the embroidered designs on clothing in a way that each symbol had a different meaning. In today's fashion, I think embroidery is more about being playful and fun with your style. Plus, this season it's a whole lot of red embroidered flowers....which I love and think is quite beautiful.

When Kaitlyn styled her jacket, she paired it with a striped dress, floral flats, and a red lip. She finished her look off with a brown cross body bag and black sunglasses. I love a great neutral mixing outfit with pops of red! When I wore the jacket, I too opted to add another piece of floral to my look. The strap on my bag is also embroidered, so it just made sense to me to mix these two items in one outfit. Add to that the red of my shoes and lips, some flare overalls, and a black sweater, and I was good to go. Dressed up or dressed down, this jacket has the perfect amount of extra detail to give your look something special.

What do you think of the embroidered trend that is back again this year? Are you loving this jacket as much as we do? It is on super sale right now, so get yours before they sell out!

Overalls & Embroidery

I am so in love with all the embroidered items currently selling this season. Why style only one in your outfit when you can wear two? This floral strap bag was the perfect compliment to the floral back jacket. Both of these items are one major repeat and I am not mad about it! It's OK to wear the same bag and jacket all the time with no judgment, right? Because I am all over that move! ;)

Another repeat offender here are my flare overalls. Ever since I had them altered so I can wear them with lower shoes, I find myself wearing them at least once a week. They are just so comfortable and still look fashionable. That is what you call a double win! This look was perfect for everyday and to dress it up a bit I added my favorite bright red lip color.

Hues of Blue

 photo plaid-22_zpsj027tsyc.jpg photo plaid-26_zpsxlfjmrf6.jpg photo plaid-18_zpsxhcih83t.jpg

Sometimes I like wearing lots of hues of the same color. To be honest, once I get on a certain color kick, it's all I choose to wear. Not even on purpose, but I get in these color moods if you will, and it's all I end up grabbing for as I style my daily looks. Blue is a color I do this with often, cream and gray are two others that I adore layering there hues as well.

On this day I finally took photos in my gingham blouse! I have worn it so many times as it is the most breezy, cozy top I own, so I was happy to photograph it. I styled it on this day with distressed denim, my blue faux leather jacket, and blue mirror sunglasses. In my opinion, you can never wear too much blue at the same time. ;)

Little Black (Wrap) Dress

The only thing better then adding a classic LBD to your wardrobe, is adding a wrap style LBD. The silhouette is utterly flattering on every body shape and size, so picking up this one in black from Leota was a no brainier. This is one of those pieces that can stay in your closet year in and year out and literally never go out of style.

I have been wearing this blue faux leather jacket non-stop lately, so I wanted to find a way to pull more blue into this styling. The scarf I added is part of the J.Jill Compassion fund collection (read more about that cause here), and I love how it's this gorgeous purple/plum color. I used that color to pick out my lip color and boots, then finished my look off by adding a print oversized clutch. In the end, I really loved this pairing. My LBD became a great canvas for print mixing and color matching but still didn't look busy.

Rocked it & Swapped it

We are both gaga for this blue faux leather jacket! Not only is it a gorgeous color and style, but it's also only $50 (score!). When I wore this beauty on Christmas Eve, I layered it over a DVF wrap dress and paired it with navy boots. Kaitlyn recently styled it with a great plaid bag, and pops of blue, white, and black for her day in Winnetka. As you can see, it pairs just as nice with dressy outfits as it does with everyday wear. I know we will both be getting tons of wear out of this beauty well through the Spring months.

Denim on Denim with a Twist

 photo styleandco-4_zpsndu6abfk.jpg photo styleandco-7_zpss5cp5m1q.jpg photo styleandco-3_zpswwgfa2aj.jpg

Rocking denim on denim is one of my favorite outfit combos. In past years, I've worn my Canadian tuxedo by styling two different shades of denim together and adding very little other color. Now-a-days, I enjoy pairing very similar shades of denim and adding pops of color to the look.

I recently got this blanket scarf for Christmas and I have to admit, I have been wearing it like a blanket on a daily basis. It's just warm and cozy and I love the colored stripes. I thought adding this scarf with plum boots and a plum lip were the perfect additions. I decided to play off the lace-up detail on this top by pulling in more white in my hat and fringe in my bag. In the end, my outfit was perfect for everyday winter wear!

The Perfect Layering Piece

 photo Fall-2_zpsg1tc2kg1.jpg photo Fall-4_zpsvlizjbmr.jpg photo Fall-6_zpsbcth6juu.jpg photo Fall-7_zpsdavputt4.jpg

I am forever on the hunt for great layering pieces. They make mornings easier (hello grab and go), and can effortlessly mix and match with anything in your wardrobe. When I spotted this long hooded cardigan at J.Jill, I knew I could not only style it with active-wear, but also everyday wear. How have I never owned a piece like this? It sure seems like a wardrobe staple to me!

On this day, skinny jeans and a ribbed turtleneck tee were just the thing for grabbing lunch and coffee in a neighboring town. I was all too excited to add this long cardigan but wanted to give it a bit of a twist. By adding this great wrap belt I gave myself more of a defined waistline and a pop of color with the bold lip. In the end, I added leopard print wedges and suddenly the outfit had a bit of attitude (the good kind that is).
