Skirting the Rules

A leather midi-skirt defies the seasonal calendar...which is great because we're all kinds of confused here in the Midwest. While June was a complete washout, literally, we have been experiencing high's in the 90's which my teacher husband just loathes thanks to no AC in the school. I, on the other hand, am savoring it while it lasts because come December, all of you overzealous Fall enthusiasts will be begging for a sweaty day...not sayin', I'm just sayin' :)

But even though it feels like Summer, the switch to September still makes you feel ready to bring out some of your new clothes...like when you went back to school shopping but your Mom wouldn't let you wear your new saddle shoes until the first day (#shoeprobs). Much like back then, I still have a hard time waiting so instead, I just chose to make this fall beauty seasonally appropriate by adding a sheer black top, lace up heels and a great pair of sunnies...perfect for date night!

You are the Pineapple of my Eye

This is definitely the summer of the pineapple...The tropical juicy fruit is popping up everywhere, in fashion, jewelry, art and of course, in the corner grocery, just waiting to get blended into our morning smoothies.

I also recently learned that it's a sign of hospitality across the South, as it was historically a rare and luxurious fruit. Before modern technology and fast transportation, it symbolized extravagance and wealth because fresh pineapple was hard to come by. How cool is that? I love the meaning behind it and luckily, Charleston is on my bucket list so I will be sure to make a stop at this fountain upon arrival.

I have run into a lot of pineapple printed apparel but this tank caught my eye right away...I love the detail on the straps and it's got just the right amount of flow, perfect for pairing with boyfriend jeans or distressed cutoffs for the summer.

Rocked it & Swapped it

A neutral clutch is great for everything from everyday wear to a night out on the town. We love this one from Aldo because it mixes black, brown, white, and gold making it the perfect pair for pretty much any outfit!

We've worn this beauty more times then we can document, but below are our favorite four. These looks really show you how versatile this bag can be!
Do you have a neutral clutch? What's your go-to bag for all occasions?

Fifty Shades of Fall

This is a special time of year because Fall is very brief in Chicago so we must take advantage of it's perks while we can. It has been 60's and sunny during the day, dropping to fireplace worthy temperatures at night, making for perfect days.. days where a sweater dress and booties feel just right, the leaves are the colors of candy corn and lighting a seasonal candle to read by on the couch feels absolutely necessary on a Friday night.

I love this marled sweater dress from Target -- it works with bare legs for a casual fall look but will also be fun to pair with tights, booties and a top knot come cooler months and the holidays.

Because Kaitlyn Rented the Runway (part 2!)

As mentioned last week, I recently utilized Rent the Runway for a wedding but the dresses didn't make it to my house in time due to crazy winter weather (which actually worked out because alternative dress was uhhmazing). That said, my original order did show up a few days later so I couldn't resist playing dress up which inspired a fancy dinner at home with the husband.

(P.S. This was during the negative double digit temperatures so I was not about to take these bare legs outside...inside shooting it is!)

I'm sorry if you're tired of seeing these earrings posted all over the blog...

Because We Love Camo Pants!

Similar to our leopard obsession, Kaitlyn and I cannot get enough of camo pants this season. The most common ways to wear them include pairing with a chambray top, a black or white blazer, or a cute graphic tee.

When I poked around Pinterest, I saw a lot of similar looks but I found some unexpected ones too! I am really loving the unique styling of these looks below.

How do you style your camo pants?
