Sweater Weather for Every Budget

(img via chalk full of love -- the cutest mugs you ever did see!)

Ask any female: One of the best parts of Fall is the return of cozy sweaters. After spending all Summer in barely there swim suits and body-hugging dresses, it feels good to let ourselves relax a bit in oversized, chunky knits. And let's all be honest, not only are they more comfortable but there's more room for our favorite Fall comfort meals (chili, soup, baked goods...and all pumpkin flavored, of course... supes #basic).

The perfect sweater keeps you warm, works as a great layering piece and looks great with both leggings and jeans. There are endless options so we've narrowed down a few of our favorites by price point...just so you know, for every save, you're allowed a splurge. It just makes sense!

Rocked it & Swapped it: The Lace-Up Bootie

A lace-up bootie is a wardrobe staple that can be worn year after year and always be on point with the current trends. Not only will it be in style, but if you pick up a pair that adds a pop of color, it can really make the outfit. We both love these Sole Society beauties because they are a true case of the latter statement. Both the navy and the oxblood colors really add something extra to whatever outfit we add them too making them our favorites for over a year now! A true taste of preppy meets edgy, our favorite combination...

Little Black Dress

photo LBD_zpslnkad0uz.jpg photo LBD 3_zps1cjolw9b.jpg photo LBD 1_zpsafdlkzgu.jpg photo LBD 5_zpsuahg7e5e.jpg

Everyone needs a little black dress in their wardrobe (or ten!). Seriously though, I am a big fan of stocking up on items that can be worn year in and year out and won't go out of style. Which is why I have quite a few black dresses that I love! This LBD is a twist on the norm with great cut-outs in the sleeves, and a keyhole detail in the back. It is perfect for a date night, GNO, or can even be worn under a cardigan and paired with cute flats for a day at the office. Head over to Tobi and pick up this beauty at half price. New customers always get 50% off their first order!

On this day, I was having dinner out and wanted to mix my neutrals. I love mixing brown and black even though I think most people still see it as a fashion faux-paw. Rules were made to be broken ladies, mix those neutrals! I wanted to add in a few other colors so I added my red glasses and a mix black and dark denim jacket. In the end I loved my outfit but I did feel a bit like a go-go girl! ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it: Polka Dot Skirt

In our opinion, polka dots are one of the easiest to style in the print family, as they remain timeless and always showcase individual personality. In order to keep them modern (and not Minnie Mouse like from the days of our childhood), we try to pair dots with current trends, neutral staples and complimentary patterns.

Tip for pattern mixing? Your polka dots should be dramatically bigger or smaller than the accompanying print. This shows that you’re aware you’re mixing patterns, and that you’re doing it intentionally. For example, if you’re wearing a striped blouse, make sure those stripes are dramatically bigger or smaller than the polka dots on your skirt. It establishes a pattern hierarchy so that not every design is operating at the same volume, making your ensemble easier on the eyes.

What is your favorite way we have worn this Old Navy style?

Rocked it & Swapped it

There is nothing more "classic summer style" then a little white dress. Year in and year out, a LWD will literally never go out of style. That is something we can not only get behind, but shop for often and guilt free at that (I mean that's how I rationalize it anyway!).

When Kaitlyn styled her white dress from Old Navy last year, she wore it over the 4th of July weekend and added pops of blue in her jewelry. I recently wore the dress (full outfit post coming next week), and decided to also add blue plus I added pink and brown to the styling. In the end, the dress was the star in both of our looks and can you blame us? A classic LWD is just always a great idea!

Pretty in Palm Print

I love a good palm print and this jumpsuit is no exception. When the Lilly Pulitzer for Target collection came out last year, I was so excited about this beauty that I got two! A matching one for my daughter that is, allowing us to have our (first ever) mommy and me moment. I love wearing this jumpsuit because each time I do, I think of that day we matched and how happy she was...this makes me smile and now I am always in a great mood when I wear it. If only all clothes made me feel this great!

On this day, I decided to pair my jumpsuit with a trench vest. Yes, I was in jeopardy of looking like I was on safari, but in the end the navy fringe brought it back to a fun fashion place. Just like every time before it, I was in a great mood and beyond comfortable. By adding simple jewelry and red sunglasses my outfit was finished for a family day this past weekend.

Rocked it & Swapped it

We are both such fans of beautiful details and what better way to add a little extra something to your look, then by adding a great headband. Weather you are attending a family party or out for a dinner date, you really can't go wrong when adding some head bling.  Plus, anytime it's OK to rock a something that you wore as a kid (and get away with it) is a positive in my book. I love me a good nostalgic styling!

It's great how some head pieces make a look more retro and others dress your outfit up. It's also a fun twist allowing you to wear smaller earrings or necklaces depending on your look. I love going with less jewelry when wearing a bold headband, but you could go the other way too. It's all up to you and your style which makes this trend even more fun!

Rocked it & Swapped it

I am in love with Kaitlyn's faux leather midi skirt from Forever 21. It can be dressed up or down and styled for so many occasions. It really is a staple piece I never knew I always needed! I truly followed suit when I styled it mirroring the idea of pairing this skirt over a dress (worn as a top). I loved how Kaitlyn's polkadot and leopard print popped when she wore it. When I got my hands on it, navy stripes seemed like the way to go and neither look would be complete without a great denim jacket!

Rocked it & Swapped it

In my opinion, everyone needs an inexpensive mini satchel bag. They are versatile, can bring a pop of color into your outfit, and are just the right size to not weigh you down. I don't know about you, but when I carry a larger bag, I fill it up. Which leaves me feeling like I'm carrying around the kitchen sink sometimes. So I guess the saying "less is more" really does apply at times!

This super cute mint satchel from Target is just the right color for any spring look. When Kaitlyn styled it last year, she used the mint as an accent color in her white denim and floral print top pairing. When I recently wore it, I also used the mint as an accent color (along with  my necklace) to make my look more seasonal.

Are you a fan of this style bag? I love that you can find one for a great prince, so I've listed my favorites under $30 below.

Happy shopping!

Must-Have Spring Shoes for 2016

Lisa's Wish List:
Each year I try to add some neutral flats, wedges, and crop boots to my wardrobe. Since these will become my daily staples, I like to keep them brown, black, and navy so they effortlessly add to what I already have and wear. I totally want all white chucks this year, a color I have avoided in footwear for years. Yes, it is hard to keep it clean, but I feel like these are a must have for this Spring. In addition, I am loving the gladiator evolution and can not wait to add a few pair of those to my collection as well! And don't forget a pair of pastel pumps, a staple for every spring wardrobe for sure!

Kaitlyn's Wish List:

To a certain extent, I am Lisa's opposite when it comes to my Spring shoe collection. Post Winter, I look forward to incorporating more color into my wardrobe, so I'll be looking for a few statement pairs of shoes in bright blues, pinks and stripes to add a bit of playful qualities to my looks. I have always been in love with sneakers with everything, so I'm really glad everyone else has decided to participate in this trend as well... I love these striped and glitter keds and am also on the hunt for the ultimate pair of women's high tops...keep me posted if you have any suggestions!

What shoes are on your list this Spring?

How We Do Date Night

Whether you've been married 10 years or dating 10 weeks, date night is an event that should never lose its spot on the calendar. It may feel redundant to hear that seeing how every Glamour dating column includes this as a way to "keep the spark alive" but we're beating a dead horse for a reason, ladies. Redbook survey of readers found 45 percent of couples "rarely" have date nights while 18 percent said they manage to go out around once a month. This is not enough!

Finding time for the two of you, whether it’s as simple as dinner and a movie or trying something new, like a weekend East Coast road trip (hint, husband!), is so important, as these moments are reminders of why you fell in love and contributing factors to creating new shared experiences.

Whatever your plans are for a night with your favorite, we've got you covered! Looking for something new to do in the city? Try this guide on for size. For everything from style to home decor, shop our favorite looks for love right here:

Date night style tip: Soft romantic looks always work...think blush tones, sequin embellishments and tulle. After all, when else can you dress like an adult ballerina and get away with it? ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it

Us Midwest gals need accessories like blanket scarves to stay warm during the harsh winter months. Or at least that is what I tell myself as my scarf collection is ever growing ;) Personally, I have over five at this point, so when it came to shopping for Kaitlyn's birthday, I knew what I wanted to get her. I picked her up this beautiful scarf (and the hat she is wearing in her outfit below) and I loved how she styled them. The white top and distressed denim are perfect for everyday wear and those boots are amazing! Clearly I loved the hat I got her so much, I bought myself one too. One for you, one for me... I can't be the only one who shops like this, am I?

When I found her scarf in our most recent swap bag I did a mini happy dance. I did not think I would get to borrow it so soon! I too styled the scarf for everyday wear. We are experiencing subzero weather here now and I am loving styling it with tunics and sweaters, with denim, and my super warm winter boots.

Here is how we both styled the blanket scarf:

Rocked it & Swapped it

To say we are both vest obsessed would be an understatement. Kaitlyn and myself can not stop styling vests over everything form our everyday wear to our night-out styles.

When Kaitlyn wore it for a night in the city, she paired it perfectly over a white button up shirt and skinny distressed denim. The bag and heels really take this look up a notch to "night-out chic". I later styled the vest for a normal mommy day of errands and school meetings. By adding it over a short sleeved turtleneck with jean leggings it really took a basic look to a fashion forward one. It's crazy how one clothing item can truly change-up a look so much!

Here is how were both styled the vest:

Leather & Lace

 photo IMG_6335_zpsrbfjjs98.jpg photo IMG_6325_zps4xprqham.jpg

Mixing a feminine textile such as lace with a masculine one (like leather) is as perfect a coupling peanut-butter with jelly. It is a such an easy look to put together and great for all the holiday parties we have ahead of us. I loved this red lace dress and when it came to styling there was only one logical way to go on this cool November day.

 photo IMG_6321_zpsnmwtdpkr.jpg photo IMG_6331_zpsqzoyov1m.jpg

I added tights, my faux leather jacket, a crystal statement necklace, and black heels to finish the look. I was ready for my night out with my husband and felt put together even though it only took me 20 minutes to get ready.

Will you be wearing this combo before years end?
