Kaitlyn's Blogging Bloopers: Volume 7

For some reason when I looked at all of these crazy outtakes, I couldn't stop thinking about the Instagram Husband sensation. Maybe it's because when I shoot with my hubs (God love him), he usually ends up rapid firing which leads to a lot of photos where I look like a goon. Or maybe it's because he is a caption creating wizard and I wondered what he would say about these. Fun fact: Before we started dating, we stayed with some friends at U of I for the weekend and ended up in some pretty hilarious situations at the bars one night...#socollege. After posting the photos on Facebook, he left comments on each one and almost every one had me near peeing my pants. I'm pretty sure it was this moment that I wondered, where has this guy been all my life? 

With that said, I figured I would throw it back to those carefree college days and see if he's still got it. In his own words, here are my husband's thoughts on my latest installment of outtakes:

While he may hate having to pause for food photos before we eat (or it didn't happen, right?!) and doesn't feel the same passion for a fantastically colored wall, at the end of the day, he supports this creative outlet of mine and even shoots a few photos for me...

After all, behind every girl on Instagram is a guy like him, and a brick wall ;)

Kaitlyn's Blogging Bloopers: Volume 6

I'm grateful for anyone that's willing to shoot my outfit photos for the blog (shout out to Mom who is always gracious about it and my husband is typically not but does it anyway...#IGHUSBAND). But I truly have the most fun with I'm shooting with Lisa...because we are immersed in this beautiful world of blogging, we are the only ones who truly understand what the other one looks for when it comes to getting the "perfect shot."
We don't rapid fire shoot to get it over with (unless it's negative degrees, as seen below). Instead, a lot of work actually goes into these plans -- finding a time that works for both of us, picking a location, hitting the right light/time of day, pre-styling multiple outfits, shooting, editing, writing content and so on. But through all of this, we spend so much time laughing, especially at the ridiculous poses and things we will try to get a good photo. Sometimes they don't end up turning out as planned....
This is evidenced in my 6th edition of blogging bloopers:

Kaitlyn's Blogging Bloopers: Volume 5

About a week ago, "Instagram celebrity" Essena O'Neill deleted 2,000 photos, renamed her account to "Social Media Is Not Real Life," and changed the captions on existing photos with truthful anecdotes about posts she was paid for, how many tries it took to get the shot, and the pressures she felt to look perfect. She shared her concerns about everyone's need for social validation and approval, living life by the number of likes on a photo. On one hand, this kind of outcry can be viewed as slightly overdramatic or just a different kind of need for attention. On the other, being in a similar position as a "lifestyle" blogger, it is so refreshing to hear someone admit how over the top and addicting the world of social media and constant interaction/communication can become. 

I've talked about it before, but sometimes it worries me how much time and effort we put into creating an image that reflects perfection to impress others. For the most part, I try not to let myself get too absorbed in the world of fashion and curating a Pinterest-approved lifestyle...I work hard to connect a lot of my style-focused posts to a story that gives it some dimension because for me, there is much more to blogging than taking photos in different outfits every day and hoping people will approve. The thing that keeps me coming back is the challenge of creating a good story because first and foremost, I peg myself as a writer and it's important to me to make sure I never let the "likes" (or lack thereof) dictate how I live my life. 

With that said, I like to shed light on the imperfect moments as a reminder that all of those gorgeous graffiti wall backgrounds and capturing every moment Truman Show style on on Snapchat are actually very small in comparison to the bigger picture.

Kaitlyn's Blogging Bloopers: Volume 4

Sometimes I feel like our lives have become so intertwined with social media that it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. We are very quick to judge someone’s life by the photos they share…the acai bowls that look like works of art or the beautiful blogger who just had a baby but got her rockin’ bod back in DAYS…because who really wants to see the dirty cereal bowls in the sink or the same ratty t-shirt we throw on to run to the grocery store? 

It makes sense to post the best parts of your day, especially if that helps you focus on the positive, but at the same time, it’s just as important to realize those are just brief moments in our lives…everyone is weathering their own storm and experiences daily struggles that aren’t always shown through a Snapseed filter. 

With that said, we must find the time to laugh at ourselves…bloggers spend a whole lot of time photographing one another, picking apart the best ones and let’s be honest, editing out the ugly. 

So from time to time, we must share what happens in between the “best of”…the blogger bloopers...

Outtakes just never get old in my book. The cutting room floor photos have quickly become some of my favorites shots and I love all your comments about how they are your favorite too!
 In almost every outfit post I shoot now, I look through the film and say "OK, seven good ones and a few outtake options." As in, I'm not done shooting until I have good and bad ones for you guys. If you can't laugh at yourself... ;)

It's Monday once again which means that only an extra dose of laughter (and an iv of iced coffee) can prepare us to take on the week (especially after a week filled with no sleep, thank you #Blackhawks!)

It is important to us to produce quality photos and content for the blog but somewhere along the way, we find ourselves in the middle of laughing fits and awkward moments which actually produce some of the most silly occasions to look back on. 

So, I present to you...Blogging Bloopers, Volume 3 (captions included but debatable of course!)

Blogging Bloopers, Volume 2: Kaitlyn

Normally, we try to share helpful information when it comes to fashion, blogging, and life in general, but sometimes, the best advice comes in the form of what not to do...

For example, if you are an 8th grader whose goal is to meet your lifelong love, Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, when you actually DO get the chance... do NOT forget how speak, forcing your bff to introduce you. And once you can speak, do NOT mention that you illegally downloaded his new (solo) single and can't stop listening...because he will not be impressed. Not basing this off personal experience or anything, just throwing it out there ;)

Seriously though, when it comes to taking outfit photos, we often have to sift through a lot of comedy to find the best shots...but when it comes down to it, wouldn't we all rather laugh at ourselves anyway? 

Here are a few girls you don't want to be:
