Hues of Blue

 photo plaid-22_zpsj027tsyc.jpg photo plaid-26_zpsxlfjmrf6.jpg photo plaid-18_zpsxhcih83t.jpg

Sometimes I like wearing lots of hues of the same color. To be honest, once I get on a certain color kick, it's all I choose to wear. Not even on purpose, but I get in these color moods if you will, and it's all I end up grabbing for as I style my daily looks. Blue is a color I do this with often, cream and gray are two others that I adore layering there hues as well.

On this day I finally took photos in my gingham blouse! I have worn it so many times as it is the most breezy, cozy top I own, so I was happy to photograph it. I styled it on this day with distressed denim, my blue faux leather jacket, and blue mirror sunglasses. In my opinion, you can never wear too much blue at the same time. ;)

Denim on Denim with a Twist

Rocking denim on denim is one of my favorite outfit combos. In past years, I've worn my Canadian tuxedo by styling two different shades of denim together and adding very little other color. Now-a-days, I enjoy pairing very similar shades of denim and adding pops of color to the look.

I recently got this blanket scarf for Christmas and I have to admit, I have been wearing it like a blanket on a daily basis. It's just warm and cozy and I love the colored stripes. I thought adding this scarf with plum boots and a plum lip were the perfect additions. I decided to play off the lace-up detail on this top by pulling in more white in my hat and fringe in my bag. In the end, my outfit was perfect for everyday winter wear!

The Perfect Layering Piece

I am forever on the hunt for great layering pieces. They make mornings easier (hello grab and go), and can effortlessly mix and match with anything in your wardrobe. When I spotted this long hooded cardigan at J.Jill, I knew I could not only style it with active-wear, but also everyday wear. How have I never owned a piece like this? It sure seems like a wardrobe staple to me!

On this day, skinny jeans and a ribbed turtleneck tee were just the thing for grabbing lunch and coffee in a neighboring town. I was all too excited to add this long cardigan but wanted to give it a bit of a twist. By adding this great wrap belt I gave myself more of a defined waistline and a pop of color with the bold lip. In the end, I added leopard print wedges and suddenly the outfit had a bit of attitude (the good kind that is).

How to Shorten a Dress Without Sewing

 photo j.jill-3_zps4vcvmw6u.jpg photo j.jill-10_zpsxoxekavc.jpg photo j.jill-9_zpsbcsyhwln.jpg

At a whopping five foot three (and 3/4's!), my torso is on the shorter side. This comes in handy when I want to wear a romper or jumpsuit (anyone else notice those are only made from shot torsos?!), but not so much when I want to wear a tunic or a knee-legnth dress. As you already know, Kaitlyn and I swap a lot, but what is a perfect fit on her is not always a perfect fit on me. For this I use an easy fix for shortening a dress without sewing, a belt!

OK, I realize I am not reinventing the wheel here, but by realizing this simple trick you really can get more out of your wardrobe. Prior to belting this beauty, it was below my knees. Not the best length for my body type to be honest. By adding this gorgeous tassel belt and pulling the material up over it, the dress quickly took on a new look and shape. Which was better for my shape. ;)

Fall-ing for Denim

 photo denim-19_zpslznmoog4.jpg photo Denim-12-2_zps9iejicmh.jpg photo Denim-13_zpsd3ttfa56.jpg

As a girl from the Midwest, I am such a fan of denim...I mean who isn't right? I am also a fan of trying out new kinds of denim. In my mind, there is no such thing as owning too many pairs of jeans. Different shades, rises, ankle types, and distressed, I have and love them all! Plus it's always fun to mix up your style and you can do just that with the right pair of jeans.

I have teamed up with Fitcode in the past (check out my post about their amazing service), and this time around I snagged a pair of JAG Jeans. What makes this pair so unique is the pull on style I am wearing. With no button and zipper, the denim lays flat at your waist leaving it perfect for wearing your favorite tops without that pesky budge the button can add. I know I will be wearing this pair tons with my tunic and slimmer fitting tops!

The Faux Fur that "Stole" the Show

I am such a sucker for a great faux fur stole. I have multiple coats and vests with faux fur collars, but I also have two stoles (the one shown here and a vintage one from my grandmother). These great pieces can be mixed and matched with outerwear or worn over any dress or sweater all by itself. The styling options are truly endless!

Now let's talk about this stunning midi dress. I have been a fan of Lara Miller for years now (I even modeled for her 2012 collection), so when she recently discounted this dress, I was very quick to reach out and see if she had it left in my size. I was in luck and I am so happy to have it in my wardrobe! I kept the styling very fall by adding brown in the stole, shoes, and necklace, and then added a pop of blue with my bag...I loved wearing this outfit!
