Because Lisa Loves to Color Block

Sometimes I need a little color in my life during these drab winter months.
Here is how I styled my color blocking look:

Coat: Victoria's Secret, Top: Loft, Denim: Levis (similar) (similar), Boots: Dolce Vita, Watch Wrap: House of Gemmes, Bracelet: Baublebar, Chain Ring: Tiffany & CO, Ring: Jarrod, Sunnies: Michael Kors, Necklace: Ax + Apple, Hat: Piperlime

I find color blocking so much easier when you stick to solid colors mixed with one neutral color...in this case that was brown for me.

Ever mix bold colors with a neutral one?

Because Kaitlyn Hosted an Oscar Party

I love award season and being that the Oscars are considered the Superbowl of these events, I look forward to our annual Academy Award Party, hosted with Lake House Lyn. The soiree starts at 5:00 so we don't miss any of the best (and worst) red carpet looks and this gives us plenty of time to start on the 3 rounds of food (healthy snacks, hot appetizers and dessert)

I've read very mixed reviews of the red carpet style, but I thought most of the dresses were stunning - Very few of them disappointed me...unless we're talking about Anne Hathaway. High neckline = No necklace. Pale pink ill fitting style? Looked like a bad bridesmaid get-up. I love her, but she rivaled Megan McCarthy for worst dressed/90's flash back.

My Top 3:
Alexander McQueen, Elie Saab, Roberto Cavalli

Runners Up:
Miu Miu, Alexis Mabille, L'Wren Scott

And here are some photos from OUR red carpet event where even though we were all in jeans and sweats, was JUST as fabulous ;-)

Introducing our Intern (& her closet!)

Lisa and I recently decided to turn to some of our most loyal blog readers and BISTM users for some creative help over the next few months and we are so lucky to have Rebecca on our team. Not only is she super talented in graphic design, but she also lives in Hawaii so of course we're just a little jeal.

Meet Rebecca & Shop her closet! (leather skirt for spring, anyone?)

We personally have our eye on the leather skirt...What about you?

Rocked it & Swapped it

Lisa's blouse collection is one that would make most girls jealous, so I try to steal (I mean swap!) as many with her as possible ;) I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love menswear tops (button up) with girly elements (bow that ties at the collar and a print of hearts) so this top is one of my favorites.

Boots or flats, tucked or not, here's how we both styled it:

What female doesn't enjoy an outfit that allows her to be comfortable and stylish all at once? On Pinterest lately, we're seeing a lot of "mix 'n match" like loose fitting boyfriend jeans with a high heel and relaxed sweatshirt/sweater tops with mini skirts. It's all about finding the right match, and here's a few places to start:

Sweaters: Off the Shoulder, V-neck, with Pockets
Heels: Glitter, Pink Pump, Grey Suede, Got the Blues
Jeans: Cuffed up, Dark Denim, The Color Purple
Jewels: Coral Cuff, Skull Bracelet, Try a Triangle, Vintage Earrings

Because We Went to Dinner

We recently celebrated a family birthday at one of our favorite restaurants, Casa Margarita. We've been going for years now and always sit at the same table while drinking their fabulously huge margs. It's always nice to meet up with the family after a long week and enjoy some time together.

Here is what we wore:
Blouse: Target, Jeans: c/o Just Fab, Booties: Forever 21, Twitter plate necklace: BaubleBar, Watch: Michael Kors, Ring: Urban Outfitters

Top and Necklace: Swap w/ Kaitlyn, Shorts: Urban Outfitters, Boots: C/O Just Fab, Bag: Rachel Zoe, Bracelet: Baublebar (similar), Watch: Fossil

As usual, we had a blast. The kids took turns making wishes in the fountain, the girls chatted about life and our TV shows (OK, Nashville is amazing!) and the boys chatted politics and history. Always fun to slow down and have some quality family time!

Rocked it & Swapped it

Kaitlyn wore this very chic top to mother's day this past year.
I immediately fell in love, as it had a boho vibe and I adored the crochet detail on the front and back. When I learned it was for sale in her BISTM closetI swapped it with her right away!

Here is how we styled "our" Target top:

I just love tops you can style up or down depending on the occasion, don't you?

Lisa's Top 5 Face Products

1) Philosophy-Purity face wash: I use this one year round. It makes your skin feel super clean and it never makes me break out (which is key)

2) Skin Ceuticals- C E Ferulic: This one I have used for 2 years now and it is a year round favorite of mine. This one goes on right after I was my face and it protects against UVA/UVB rays as well as stimulates collagen production

3) Skin Ceuticals- B5 Gel: Again a year round favorite. Great for moisturizing your skin and neck

4) Yonka Masque #1: I use this one a lot in the winter. You leave it on for 20-60 minutes and then wash it off. It is great for hydrating your skin. GREAT!

5) Bioelements Sleepwear: I use this one mostly in the winter as well. You put it on at night and sleep with with on. It eliminates dead surface cells, uncovers smoother/softer skin, helps unclog pores, and evens complexion color and tone.

What are your go-to face products?

Recipe Idea: Design Your Own Pizza!

I love all the "Make your own ___ bars" on Pinterest (ice cream, taco, mimosa, etc) and being the creative host that she is, my Mom recently came up with the idea to do a "Make your Own Pizza" station. We look forward to Sundays during Award season because we watch the E! Red carpet together and mock those that we hate and gush over those that we love...Okay, and she's always making something delicious for us to munch on.

Here's how we designed our own Pizza's:
We each started with a blank canvas: Multigrain Stonefire Flatbread Crusts

Then came the fun part: The toppings! We had a variety of choices including artichoke, feat cheese, mozzarella, pizza sauce, bbq sauce, pineapple, olives, pepperoni and tomato slices.

This night, I decided I want to have it all so I went 1/2 and 1/2 with pepperoni and mozzarella on one side and pineapple and feta on the other. Why choose 1 when you can have both? ;)

What toppings would you go for?

Peaked my Pinterest: Top Knot with Head Wrap

I saw this image on Pinterest and immediately pinned it on my hair dos board. Whenever I'm in a hair bind, or it's day three of unwashed hair, I always check out Pinterest for a quick and easy selection of ideas.

This style was PERFECT for my day around the house:

1. I flipped my head over and made a super high ponytail making sure I stopped after on the third time pulling the hair through I stopped after I got a small hoop.

2. Next, I pinned the ends of the hair around the base. Using bobby pins, I pinned the hoop down to my head so it was more flat at the base.

3. I don't own any non gym head wraps, but I did have this super cute double head band, so I teased my bangs back using hair spray and place the headband on pushing it slightly forward giving the bang area volume.

We want to see your YOUR Rock & Swaps!

Question: How many times are you out with your girlfriends saying things like, "You look so cute! Love that shirt. Obsessed with your shoes. Where'd you get that bag?"

Challenge: Borrow the item, wear it YOUR way and send us the photos of how you both styled the piece.

We love fashion re-mixes!
(And when you're both done with item, upload it on BISTM to swap/sell with someone else! Okay, this could go on for days) ;)
