Rocked it & Swapped it: J. Jill Cable Knit Sweater

Cable knit sweaters are a must this year of year and this J.Jill style is one of the coziest we have found yet. It's chenille material which makes it feel like you're wrapped in a teddy bear and it's pretty long in length with an a-line hem so it works for just about every kind of bottom (jeans, leggings, etc.) I tucked it in a bit in the front for a casual feel and paired it with my favorite everyday nude booties and distressed denim. I like that Lisa took a totally different route and dressed it up by adding four items that take any look from everyday to everyday chic: Jewelry, shoes, bag, and lip color. Versatility at its finest!

Rocked it & Swapped it

This swap post is one of my favorites because it's a two item Rocked it & Swapped it. By now you all know of our love for cabi Clothing, but this bow neck blouse and plaid coat are next level. If you love either of these items as much as we do, contact a cabi Clothing stylist stat! They will be your all time favorites for years to come, the quality of both are amazing, and the print and color on the jacket is absolutely stunning. You will not be disappointed, I promise!

OK, now onto our styling. When I wore my blouse and jacket back in August, I paired it with a super chic faux leather trimmed skirt and two-tone boots. I finished my look off with gold jewelry and a bold lip color. When Kaitlyn styled her blouse and jacket in November, she went a more casual pairing. By adding color denim and floral print flats her top and jacket took on a new look. I love just how versatile these pieces are! This would also be a great example of how to style these items from day to night, don't you think?

What do you think of our pairings? Are you a fan of the blouse and jacket? Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you make it a great day! xo

Rocked it & Swapped it

Us Midwest gals have quite a few coats and lets be honest, we need them. Today is high 38 degrees, low 16 degrees, which means wearing warm layers and a great coat are key to staying warm. We were recently gifted this beautiful Chelsea Coat from J.Jill and I can speak for both of us when I say we are obsessed. I personally have been wearing my daily, the gray color is the perfect addition to literally any outfit! Gray not your color? This beauty comes in black and a super beautiful teal color called ocean as well.

When Kaitlyn styled her coat, she paired it with tights and a dress for a weekend family party. I love how the gray really made the red in her dress pop! When I styled my coat a few days later, I wore it over an all black base and added pops of colors and prints in the accessories. Both looks were elevated by adding such a great long jacket!

I'd also like to point out that we both added our compassion fund floral scarf. Not only is this scarf beautiful (and reversible), but 100% of the net proceeds will help disadvantaged and homeless women become self-sufficient. You can pick up your very own here. They make great holiday gifts!

What do you think of our pairings? Are you a fan of long-collarless coats? Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you make it a great day! xo

Rocked it & Swapped it: Styling a Jean Skirt for Fall

The denim skirt used to be considered a summer staple back in the day. Anyone else rock their mini  with frayed edges with a tank top, puka shells and flip flops on warm Summer nights? Even though I'm from the Midwest, I continued to dress like I lived in Southern California (#wishfulthinking). Thank God we've come to our senses and realized that not only are too tight Hollister shirts no longer acceptable but that there is a modern way to style a denim skirt and keep it classy.

The best part is its versatility - Whether you're working with short hemlines mixed with oversize sweaters and cold-weather boots (like Lisa) or a midi length adorned with gold buttons, appropriate for casual Friday or a creative workplace (like myself), it's time to embrace this trend for the new season. If you need some more inspo, here are 16 more ways to style a jean skirt.

Rocked it & Swapped it: Saddle Bag

Happy Thursday, friends! A great saddle bag is a wardrobe staple that can take you through all four seasons and can be dressed up or dressed down. I have had this bag from Sole Society for three years now, and it is still one of the most worn bags in my collection. As you can see, I pulled examples of myself wearing it in May of 2016 and Kaitlyn styling the same bag in September of 2017. Any bag that is this versatile is one every girl should have in their wardrobe.

I searched high and low to find you guys the best saddle bags currently selling. I am loving all the beautiful colors and all are under $100, most under $50. Happy shopping!

Rocked it & Swapped it

Happy Thursday friends! Today's swap is centered around a classic wardrobe staple, this gorgeous white blouse from ASOS. Everyone needs a white blouse in their closet. They are super versatile, can be styled year round, and can be dressed up or dressed down. This one is extra pretty with it's lace and button details, which honestly drew us both to it. Plus it's only $45, so we say stock up on this one while you can!

When Kaitlyn styled her top, she wore it as a classic combo. Nothing is more easy to pair, while looking very put together, then jeans and a blouse. By adding great jewelry, adorable flats, and a statement bag, her classic look really stood out. When I got my hands on it, I wanted to pair it a bit more unexpected. I paired it with a button-up skirt, faux fur vest, and navy boot. In the end this is a great example of a day to night styling for this blouse, no?

Rocked it & Swapped it

Everybody needs a great cross body bag, so why not pick one up that has a cute tassel detail on it? That's just what Kaitlyn did when she found this neutral beauty at Target (which sadly is sold out), but have no fear I have search high and low for cute alternatives. If you feel like doing a little shopping today, feel free to click on the photos below!

SHOP CROSS BODY TASSEL BAGS:

When Kaitlyn styled her bag back in May, she kept her look casual with a sweatshirt, skinny jeans, sneakers, and oversized sunglasses. Her pink lip and neck scarf took it up a notch giving the outfit a more chic look. When I recently styled her bag, I too was wearing a more casual everyday look. By adding it to my stripe maxi t-shirt dress & block heel mules, I was good to go for my day of errands. In the end, I added a bright red lip and a scarf, but I added my scarf to the bag. That has to be my favorite timeless trend to mix up your bags, wouldn't you agree? I know my grandma did it and that makes it even more special to me.

Rocked it & Swapped it: Chambray Trim Hat

There is nothing more versatile and perfect for summer then a great sun hat. Over the years I have accumulated quite the hat collection, and that's for a number of reasons actually. First and foremost, I wear hats for sun protection. I have fair skin, scars from a dog bite back in sixth grade, and have been protecting my face from the sun for as long as I can remember. I am just glad there are so many beautiful options nowadays!

Secondly, they are a great way to hide a bad hair day or even just making your hair style easier for that day. I mean, there is nothing easier for a summer festival then adding a great sun hat.  Lastly, hats are a fun way to change the look of any outfit. I'm not even just talking summer either, I love me a great wool hat during the winter months as well!

SHOP CHAMBRAY TRIM HATS:

This chambray trim hat that Kaitlyn was gifted by J.Jill a few months ago is such a fast favorite. The style is classic and the blue pop really elevates each outfit that much more. When Kaitlyn styled her hat, she wore it with a beautiful navy top, stripe linen pants, and a great coral bag. When I got my hands on it over the 4th of July weekend, I wore it with a stripe top, white linen pants, and all white chucks. In the end I love both looks and it just makes me want to add a chambray trim hat to my collection. Good thing I added some great ones to shop above at really low price points!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Watermelon Clutch

One of the best parts about getting dressed in the Summer is being able to play with so many different colors and fun, quirky prints. When it comes to quirky, this watermelon clutch is the creme de la creme, popping off the page no matter how you choose to wear it. Tell me it's not the best part of both of our looks, me styling it with maternity shorts and Lisa with a chic black jumpsuit. Both outfits make the clutch the focal point and on a 90 degree day, I feel like it's only appropriate.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I was with Lisa when she purchased it at a T&J Designs event last year and I remember thinking, you're going to regret not doing the same -- turns out I was right! They had a lemon one too, both of which are the cutest accessories for Summer! I want to wear it with everything...I don't believe this one is for sale any longer but this one is almost identical and we've linked to SO many different watermelon styles below!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Old Navy Chambray Dress

Happy Thursday friends! This week, we are rocking and swapping this beautiful chambray dress of Kaitlyns. She picked this one up from Old Navy back in early 2016, and we have been swapping it ever since. Oddly, I never took photos in it until recently. It is such a great everyday piece but it's longer on me, so I was always coming up with reasons why not to shoot in it. Kaitlyn and I are five inches apart in height, so what works on her length wise, doesn't always work on me (and vice verse...don't even get me started on our shared romper issues! lol). However, I finally came to the conclusion that I liked it knee length, and if I wanted it shorter, I could just pull the elastic waist up!

SHOP CHAMBRAY DRESSES:

When Kaitlyn wore her dress last June, she styled it with a bandana tied around her neck, classic white chucks, my stripe clutch, and a great red lip. When I got my hands on it this past month, I paired it with a long stripe cardigan, gladiator sandals, and this shared paint splattered bag of ours. I think I'm finally over my "it's too long for me" phase. At your knee can be a great cut for a dress too! Especially when chasing kiddos around. ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it

Does everyone have a blush colored bag in their wardrobe yet? It's such a perfect color for the Spring and Summer months, but I've actually even styled it during the Fall months too! I mean, why not? It's such a beautiful color and can really be styled with any outfit, giving it an entire new look.

When I styled my bush bag from Express in early May, I wore it with a romper, denim jacket, and gladiator sandals. The bag was the perfect amount of muted color pop that I needed to finish off this hues of blue look. When Kaitlyn wore my bag in late May, she paired it with white denim, a stripe tunic, denim jacket, and yellow gladiator sandals. Again, the blush tone bag gave it a little extra unexpected color pop.

I searched high and low for blush bags for you to shop, but wanted to find them at every prince point. I hope you love the ones I found,  I have had my blush bag for three years now and it's definitely one of my most worn bags! I found quite a few around the $30 price point too, so why not pick one up? ;)

Rocked it & Swapped it: Striped Cabi Cardigan

I can't speak for Kaitlyn, but I had no idea I always wanted needed a long stripe cardigan in my wardrobe. Sure, I have styled long cardigans in the past, but this one is just so amazing. The style, the quality, the mis-matched stripes on the sleeves...swoon! A giant thank you to Cabi Clothing for hooking us both up with this beauty. If you guys want it, shop soon as their Fall line will be coming out in a few short months (which by the way is ah-may-zing!) and when it's gone, it's gone.

When I styled my long stripe cardigan, I was in Los Angeles and wore it over a classic tank and shorts with some great mules. The cardigan was perfect to keep me warm in the air conditioning during the day and later that night when I was outside. When Kaitlyn styled her cardigan, she wore with with white demin and a classic tee for a Memorial Day style inspired look. P.S. How cute is her chambray ribbon panama hat? LOVE!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Cabi Striped Trench Coat

When it comes to outerwear, us Midwest girls can never have too many options. I know for a fact I have over ten coats and I am OK with it, I mean, we wear coats a lot here with this all over the place weather. This gorgeous stripe trench coat from Cabi Clothing is giving us all the feels and we just can't stop wearing it! Is it weird that I got excited it's going to cool off the next few days because I know I get to wear it again? It's the little things in life...

When I wore my striped trench, I paired it over a great sweater top (also Cabi Clothing), denim skirt, and bright flats. I just love the red, white, and blue pairing even when it's not the 4th of July, don't you? Kaitlyn recently styled hers and she paired it over denim, a classic white tee, pastel scarf, and strappy sandals. Pregnancy style never looked so chic...at least mine didn't! ;)

I definitely feel like everyone needs a great lightweight khaki trench coat, but now Cabi has me believing we would all be better off with a striped trench too!

What do you think?

Rocked it & Swapped it

Hello sunshine and Spring clothing! These mid-rise linen pants with an elastic back waistband became fast favorites for us both. Structured, comfortable, and lightweight, what's not to love? The subtle blue vertical stripes make it super easy to match them with literally anything and can be worn to so many different occasions during this Spring and Summer season.

I styled my pants with a classic white tank and layered a white cardigan that has lace detail over it. By adding a statement necklace, neutral heels and bag, and a bright pink lip, my outfit was perfect for an afternoon out with my girlfriend. When Kaitlyn styled her pants (24 weeks pregnant, might I add), she tucked in a great navy lace top and paired it with a straw hat and neutral shoes. The pops of color with her coral bag and bright lip were perfect for her weekend day by the water.

Are you a fan a linen pants?

Rocked it & Swapped it: Neutral Maxi Dress

What is not to love about a mock neck maxi dress? It's the perfect, "it's close enough to Spring that I can pull off a dress" style because it's so transitional. Long enough for colder days with a jacket but light and sleeveless for Summer days and sandals. We're big fans of the pocket detail and the slit in the back (adding a little va va voom to a basic staple piece). We both chose to keep the color palette in all neutral tones...me in navy and brown and Lisa in 50 shades of gray but how cute would the dress be with colorful pom pom accessories? True Spring style can't come soon enough!

Rocked it & Swapped it: Red Strappy Flats

There is no such thing as too much of a good thing. OK, maybe there is, but when it comes to wearing these beautiful red flats over and over, we just can't get enough! They are perfect for year-round wear and super comfortable to boot. No matter how you style them, they always steal the show because even if you were wearing all muted colors or a monochrome look, they serve as your pop of color. We constantly get compliments about them on Instagram and when worn out and about. Do they remind anyone else of Dorothy's shoes? There's just something so playful about a red shoe!

When Kaitlyn first wore her red flats from J.Jill, she paired them with a timeless and classic outfit. Ladies, you can literally never go wrong when pairing a white collar shirt with jeans! When I wore my pair last week, I styled them with a denim skirt and lots of stripes. See a few other ways we have styled them here:

With Stripes //  Overalls // Distressed Denim

A great pair of red shoes really are the focal point of any look!
